Tonight’s Takeaways: Niko Secures Hat Trick and Elkie Grabs Three Points in Sweep of Elmira

Jan 12, 2025

Danbury, CT | Patrick Frenette

Tonight was a huge momentum turner for the boys, as they took down Elmira 4-2 to bring themselves within two points of a playoff spot. Niko was a force not to be reckoned with, as he got past Aviators netminder Carson Barnes three times to secure his first NAHL career hatty. Spokane also put up another big performance making 40 saves on 42 shots for a .952 save percentage.

Niko’s Way

Niko Tournas continues to bring a lot of scoring power to Danbury’s offense, as he secured his first NAHL career hat trick in the 4-2 win. Niko scored five total goals this weekend, grabbing an assist to level himself out for a six-point weekend. The last time Tournas had a six-point weekend, was during our sweep of the New Hampshire Mountain Kings in December (2G, 4A).

Elkie Flies Through Former Squad

Kai Elkie was out for blood this weekend as he took on his former team for the first time this season. Elkie was able to have a goal-per-game in the sweep, along three assists in the two games combined. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native made sure to let his former team know that he does not miss it, as he chippy with the bench in both contests.
