Late goal lifts Nordiques over Jr. Hat Tricks in 3-2 nailbiter

DANBURY, CT– A last-minute goal proved to be the difference as the Maine Nordiques eeked out a 3-2 victory over the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks Friday night.

A shaky start to the first period put Danbury down early, as a pair of Nordiques goals within 15 seconds from Aidan Connolly and Caden Pattison put the Nordiques on top 2-0. The Jr. Hat Tricks cut the deficit in half thanks to a powerplay goal scored by Nolan Barrett.

The second period was defined by its physicality, as teams traded hits and scoring chances. Jason Kleinhans would break the tension for Danbury, taking advantage of a Maine turnover in the neutral zone, shooting bar-down to tie the game 2-2.

Cannon Green tallied the game-winner for the Nordiques, tapping in a loose puck in the crease with just 1:16 remaining in regulation time.

Danbury netminder Geno Pichora stopped 36 of 39 in the loss. The Jr. Hat Tricks are now 2-5 against Maine this season, with four losses coming by just one goal.

The Jr. Hat Tricks and Nordiques square off again tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm for the second of a three-game set. Tickets are available by clicking here. Live streaming will be available on HockeyTV.
