Hoban’s hat trick gives Danbury pre-season win

Sep 24, 2020

Fourteen seconds is all it took for the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks to make their mark on the North American Hockey League.

Alexander Krause found the back of the net in the team’s first shift in league history, sneaking a wrist shot through the five-hole of Northeast Generals goaltender Joey Stanizzi. Powered by a Cody Hoban hat trick, Danbury would secure their first win in the NAHL. Though it be just pre-season, there’s plenty of reason to be excited.

All four of the Jr. Hat Tricks’ lines came ready to play, jamming communication lines for the opposition in the neutral zone and actively puck-hawking on the forecheck. Play was particularly crisp in the first period, with the top line of Krause, Hoban and Shea Courtmanche producing three goals. Physicality was the name of the game in the second, with animosity coming to a boil when Danbury’s Peyton Hughes dropped the gloves against Carson Asper.

Though Northeast rallied from down 4-1 to cut the lead to 4-3, Hoban capped off his hat trick with 12 seconds remaining in regulation time to ice the win for the Hat Tricks.
