Hat Tricks fall in heartbreaker to Rebels, 3-2 in Overtime

Oct 22, 2026

The Danbury Hat Tricks got back in action at the Danbury Hat Tricks after a nine-day layoff, facing off with the Philadelphia Rebels for the first time this season in a Wednesday afternoon battle.

Ty Ferguson manned the crease for the Hat Tricks, and Ben Varsa got the start for the Rebels.

Danbury saw the debut of South Kent’s Nick Curry in the game, getting the rookie lap before.

Both teams felt each other out early on, but Nick Petkovich forced a turnover in the Philadelphia end and put one by Varsa for his first goal of the season.

But the Rebels responded: Cam Wilson found Oscar Djurburg on the backdoor during a 2-on-1 to tie it up at one just two minutes later.

Then, Zach Greenlund put one shortside past Ferguson to give the Rebels a 2-1 lead that they would carry into the second.

Danbury got one back as Liam Storch took a feed from Brent Beswick right in front to tie it back up at 2.

Both Goaltenders stood tall in the last half of the hockey game, taking us to Danbury’s first overtime of the season.

The two teams traded opportunities in overtime before Paxton Couture ripped one by Ferguson to give the Rebels the 3-2 sudden-death victory.

Ty Ferguson made 33 saves in the loss, while Varsa stopped 22. Danbury went 0/1 on the Power Play, while Philadelphia went 0/2.

The Hat Tricks are back in action on Friday afternoon at the Danbury Ice Arena, as they take on the New Jersey Titans. Puck drops at 3:30. If you can’t make it, the game will be live on NAHLTV with Christian Gardecki; the pregame show starts at 3:15.
