DANBURY CT – The 2021 NAHL Draft took place this afternoon, and the Hat Tricks had seven picks to help add to and bolster their roster for the upcoming season.
Their first pick came in the first round when they selected David Chen, an eighteen-year-old out of Livingston, New Jersey with the 12th pick. Chen, a Yale commit, is a 5’11 center who will look to add depth up the middle for Billy McCreary and the Hat Tricks. Chen played hockey last year for the Rochester Coalition 18AAA team, registering 25 points (11G+14A) in 28 games.
Danbury utilized a pair of second-round picks to shore up the back end, taking two defensemen only three picks apart. The Hat Tricks spent the 56th pick on Logan Huroux, and the 59th pick on Lucas Di Chiara. Huroux played the past season for the Utica Jr. Comets in the NCDC, racking up 39 penalty minutes over 22 games. Di Chiara skated for the Fox Motors 16AAA squad and had a shortened but productive season, notching ten points (4G+6A) in sixteen games. Both Huroux and Di Chiara look to add some depth to the Hat Tricks defensive core this year.
Danbury head coach Billy McCreary spent the first of his fourth-round selections on Karter McNarland. McNarland, who went 88th overall, is a forward who last played a full season for the Humboldt Broncos in the SJHL. While in Humboldt, the 5’11 skater tallied 50 points (10G+40A) and 28 penalty minutes in 57 games. The Hat Tricks then went west and selected Marko Giourof out of Torrance, California with the 99th pick. Giouruf, is a seventeen-year-old, who skated with the Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18AAA last season and earned over a point-per-game.
The final two picks of the draft were used for Seth Rakosky and Trey Hirschfield. Rakosky is a Colorado native and the youngest pick of the draft for Danbury. Rakosky went 157th overall and will look to add additional depth at defense for the Hat Tricks. The final pick of the draft for Danbury was 186th overall and it was used to select Trey Hirschfield, a former member of the Hat Tricks NA3HL team. While with the Hat Tricks last season he amassed a .900 save percentage and a 2.93 goals-against average.
Next up for Danbury is the preseason camp, slated to take place at the end of July, where the coaching staff will get a good look at the team they will be taking into the 2021-22 NAHL season.
